Match Report: U11 Colts v Faversham Strike Force

The game saw a strong start for the Risers with an immediate free kick for Ryan only slightly wide and some great passing and play on the right wing from Noah and Ashley. Faversham began to put together some good play and Blake was forced to make a great save, tipping the ball over the bar. The game was evenly balanced with end to end play. Faversham earned three corners in quick succession but some frantic defending saw the score remaining goalless. At the other end, Fin put in a great ball through to Ashley, who saw a good shot saved. Faversham were soon attacking again with Hayden and Ellis both making vital tackles and sending the ball back up field. Harry and Noah put together some lovely, attacking play on the left but it was Faversham who went ahead with an unstoppable shot. The Risers immediately responded with some great play from Hayden, Dylan and Ashley but again it was Faversham who found the back of the net. The half ended with a corner to the Risers, and a good shot narrowly over from Ryan. 

The second half began with a strong start for Faversham with the ball hitting the crossbar and then a great save from Blake. A third goal soon followed and Faversham began to look in control. Blake continued to make some good saves and Gideon and Ryan defended bravely. The Risers were still trying hard in attack with Sam and Ashley combining well to produce some threatening play and Theo putting in some great passes on the wing. Two more goals for Faversham came in quick succession, leaving the Risers with only a few minutes to pull one back. Some rare attacking from Hayden, led to a corner and then free kick going just wide. A tough game in windy conditions but a good, competitive match.

Weekend roundup: 15-16 May

Risers: Rain washes in success for Risers

With rain pouring down on their heads, the Rising Stars teams showed determination, perseverance and teamwork. We could not be prouder of how hard they worked despite the rain disrupting their games.

In the world of Under 7’s, Under 7 Youth played Whitstable Town and controlled the game. They not only came off the pitch exhausted, but having learnt from their mistakes.

Under 7 Colts played an exciting game against Thanet United Vikings, showing both talent and skill throughout the game.

Two teams played in the Under 8 age group this weekend. Under 8 Colts enjoyed a game against Faversham Town. They fought hard until the final whistle.

Under 8 youth and Faversham Strike Force went head to head in a great game for spectators to watch.

The Under 9 teams brought success to Rising Stars, with Under 9 Juniors playing a tough game against Eastry Ravens, showing good passing and excellent teamwork. The game finished with a friendly penalty shoot out, both teams leaving having had good fun.

Under 9 Youth faced Herene Bay Wanderers with strong pressuring, keeping their heads up high when times were difficult and working together.

Under 9 Colts traveled to a rainy Thanet to play Thanet United Invaders. The boys played as a team against a tough opponent with Harry showing prowess as a defender and Indie flying down the wings like David Ginola.

The Under 10 teams gave spectators a show they would have paid to see. Firstly, we had Under 10 Youth, who gave Thanet Vikings a run for their money. They showed everyone what a talented team they are and proved how far they can go.

Under 10 Colts played Tankerton in a spirited game, full to the brim with mutual respect and a love for the sport.

Under 11 Colts had a strong match against Dover Rangers, having already learned their movements from the week before. Great passion and pride was reflected in their passes.

The Under 12 Girls took part in a shield tournament this weekend, set above by Eloise and Grace. In one game they left the pitch with a 3-0 victory, and in another a 2-2 draw. The only undefeated team in the entire tournament, they came away with another shield, ready to introduce it to Rising Stars

Under 12 Juniors faced a well prepared Ramsgate, who were the undefeated league champions, for an intense cup competition. Unfortunately, the game ended a 6-2 loss for the Risers, Charlie being captain and man of the match.

The Under 13 Girls traveled to Homeland stadium to play a sturdy Ashford United side, in difficult conditions. The girls went toe to toe with perhaps their toughest opponent, Eventually losing the match 6-4, but not losing the fun they started with. Their coach, Neil, said “it was probably the girls best performance”. A strong defensive performance from Ella and good midfield play from Izzy.

Match Report: U10 Girls v Grasshoppers Juniors FC

The U10 girls played their final game of the season all the way down in Romney Marsh this lunchtime. Playing this far away many had planned to make it a day out and grab an ice cream before and after the game! The weather was brisk, but the pitch was great and the girls put together one of there best passing performances of the year.

Although thwarted on several occasions by grasshoppers excellent keeper, the passing and making space led to a 4 slick goals in the first half all scored by Lottie Martin who has been an absolute goal machine scoring nearly 20 goals since returning from lockdown.

The girls played into the wind in the second half and continued to drive forward and pass the ball well. A goal from outside the box from Amelia Cousins made it 5 and then Lottie Martin added a sixth. Grasshoppers scored a good consolation for their efforts and the game finished with all 9 players from each team on the pitch.

A good finish to the season and we are looking forward to the break but also to next season.

Match Report: U11 Colts v Dover Rangers

Torrential rain for most of the game made it a hard game for the players and the reporter! The Risers started brightly, immediately attacking at pace down the wings. Pressure grew and the breakthrough came as Fin scored after a great pass from Dylan. Overall the game was even, with the defenders working hard, while the midfield and attackers continued to press. Blake was a secure presence in goal the half ended with no further score.

The second half continued in a similar vein, with end to end football but overall the Risers were dominant in attack. With ten minutes left, a harshly awarded penalty, gave Blake little chance and the score was level. Despite some last minute chances, the score remained a draw. A great team performance across the pitch.

Weekend Roundup: 01-02 May

Rising Stars: Under 12 Girls bring shield home lead by proud coaches.

On a sunny bank holiday weekend, as per the norm every Rising stars team played great football, gave everything they had and most importantly had fun as they played opposition from across Kent.

Under 12 Girls played a furious game against East Kent FC, making spectators writhe with anticipation as the game progressed. A strong team performance combined with individual brilliance saw the Risers win 8-0 and take the shield back to their trophy cabinet. Key performances came from Jeea and Grace who both left the field with player of the match performances With Grace scoring a hat-trick.

Under 13 Colts didn’t give up in their fight against Cheriton despite only having 10 players and being without their usual goalkeeper. The Colts beat a strong Cheriton side in a friendly that resulted in a 2-1 victory for the Risers with a resolute defence and a strong second half display.

Under 13 Girls were confronted with a tenacious Margate side, but never gave up on teamwork and showed a positive attitude. An early goal for Margate did not dampen the girls spirits with Risers twice coming close to equalising. A second goal came just before half-time. With the game at 2-0 Risers continued to press forward allowing Margate the opportunity to counter. The game ended 3-0 with a Margate goal with the last kick of the game. Lizzy showed tremendous energy and attitude to support her teammates, earning herself a well deserved player of the match.

In the Under 11 category there were two games involving Risers. The Under 11 Youth played a good Margate side with Risers showing incredible teamwork and perseverance to produce an incredible display of football. Rising Stars’ chairman Anthony remarked “What a group of players, loved watching this match”.

The Under 11 Colts also played this weekend against a strong and resilient Deal team with both sides playing football of a high standard. The Colts possessed an attacking mindset and linked up well together. Their manager, Sam, stated “The team showed good passing and was the most attacking we’ve been all season”.

There were two games played in the Under 10’s. Under 10 Youth didn’t let their lack of substitutes stop them from giving their opposition, Faversham Strike Force, a fierce game. Each player showed considerable determination and drive pushing each other to a fantastic team performance.

The Under 10 Girls Colts played East Kent Roses in an intense battle for victory. The girls played superb football and credit is due to the East Kent team who continued to fight throughout the game.

Three teams played this weekend in the Under 9 category. The Under 9 Juniors played Eastry, fighting for the game until the final blow of the whistle. Each player showed considerable effort and displayed excellent camaraderie.

The Under 9 Colts played a determined Whitstable Town Youth matching them as equals despite having no substitutes. The players showcased tremendous amounts of energy as the game progressed. The opposition commented that this was the toughest team they had played. The performance saw a fine goalkeeping display by Evan and a driven showing by Dugee.

Finally the Under 9 Youth played a fair and purposeful game against Margate, both teams receiving support from each other and spectators alike. The game was played with mutual respect and fairness showing the qualities expected from a Rising Stars team. The game included a fantastic display by Fraser and excellent work from Josh showing good control.

In Under 8 football only one team played this weekend with the Under 8 Youth showing the meaning of teamwork in a tough match against a strong Whitstable town team. Their coach, Scott, said “This was probably the best game the boys have played all season”

In the world of Under 7 football the Under 7 Youth played a strong game against Herne Bay Harriers. The Risers had no substitutes but didn’t let this hold them back playing some excellent football.

The Under 7 Colts played a good Tyler Hill Youth Colts, showing both team spirit and determination throughout the match. The boys worked hard together showing that they have made lots of progress over time.

Match Report: U11 Colts v Deal Town Rangers

The first two minutes saw an excellent start for the Risers with two goals in quick succession, the first scored by Ryan, assisted by Sam and the second, scored by Fin. Noah and Harry were linking up well on the left, continuously threatening Deal. The game opened up with Deal becoming stronger and both Hayden and Ellis putting in some important tackles at the back. At the other end, Fin was fouled in the box and then converted the resulting penalty. Despite the scoreline, Deal continued to fight, and soon pulled one back. The half ended with an excellent run by Noah and shot from Gideon which was well saved by Deal’s goalie.

The second half saw a strong start from Deal and they soon added their second goal from the penalty spot. Blake was becoming busier in our goal, making some excellent saves. The game was now increasingly open with corners, chances and saves at both ends. Noah, Ryan, Ashley and Dylan were all excellent in attacking from midfield, while Hayden and Ellis were solid at the back. Eventually, Deal scored again from a corner, leaving an equal scoreline. In the last few minutes, the Risers were strong and had some very narrow misses. A really entertaining game and great effort from all.

Match Report: U12 Girls ‘The Derby Derby’

The Blues came out winners in the 2021 Derby derby, the first game back after lockdown.

Football was the winner judging by all the smiles on show. Some cracking performances and quality goals, real determination - lockdown clearly hasn't dented the girls' passion for the game.

Looking forward to the next derby! Well done to all the girls, see you at training!

Match Report: U11 Colts v Deal Town Rangers

The game was off to a lively start with an early shot from Fin. The first few minutes saw the Risers pressuring well with a skilful run on the right from Ashley and Fin winning a corner. Another corner followed and after a period of sustained attacking, Ashley scored the opener. Sam fed on a good through ball from Hayden and shot just wide. The ball was mostly in Deal’s half but Blake stayed alert in goal, collecting well on a number of occasions. Deal attacked again, but Theo defended well, sending the ball down the other end for an attack which enabled Sam to add a second. The Risers were playing well now and piling the pressure on Deal, with continuous strong, attacking play from Dylan, Hayden, Gideon, and Fin. Sam shot just wide and Dylan put in a strong free kick. Ryan came on and added further strength in midfield, putting in some lovely passes and a strong shot. Noah was brilliant on the left, putting in run after run. Deservedly, he was soon rewarded with an assist after his ball set up Dylan to score the third goal. 

The second half began in the same dominant manner. Ryan and Fin both put in strong shots and Noah continued with his speedy runs, forcing Deal’s keeper to make a great save. The Risers were pressuring all the time though Deal were still pushing forward when they were able. Although quiet in defence, Ellis was in command, clearing the ball well frequently, with support from Hayden and Theo. Harry continued to impress in midfield, putting in excellent tackles and distributing the ball well. In the last few minutes, Ashley almost added his second goal of the game before Sam took advantage of the ball bobbing around in the box and added the Risers’ fourth. Overall, a great team performance and comprehensive win. Man of the match went to Ashley for great work on the wing and in attack.
